Nowra Wildlife Rescue
We encourage you to contact NSW South Coast Wildlife rescue by calling 0418 427 214 or contact us if you have found a native animal injured or unwell. Many injured wild animals are left on the side of the road after being hit by a car. It is very common for possums, kangaroos, wallabies, gliders, wombats, potoroos and echidnas to be carrying their newborn babies in their pouches and if left their young are left alone for too long they will die of starvation.
We encourage you to stop and check any injured wildlife, being mindful of the following:
- If you find a wild animal that is injured or unwell please call South Coast Wildlife Rescue immediately on 0418 427 214.
- Always ensure your own safety. Injured animals are not tame and may bite or scratch you out of fear for their own protection.
- Never touch injured bats or snakes. Some snakes are highly venomous and bats have the potential to carry fatal viruses.
- If you have found a female, please check their pouch and surrounding areas for their babies. It is common for babies to be thrown from their mother’s pouches when hit by a car.
- Any babies that you do find wrap them securely into a towel, blanket or t-shirt and call Wildlife Rescue South Coast on 0418 427 214 immediately.
- Do not handle or expose the baby to too much human contact.
