Locum Veterinarians
We are fortunate to have locum vets join our team on a regular basis. Here is what some of our previous locum veterinarians have to say.
Cynthia – Locum Veterinarian
After locuming for 6 months with the Shoalhaven Vet Group, I have had the chance to appreciate both clinics. It is a rewarding place to work a great team of vets, nurses and support staff. An extremely high level of knowledge and skills coupled with the appropriate equipment, allows complex cases to be diagnosed and managed in house with a high standard of care.
It is one of the best team environments I have worked in, and with multiple special interests covered across the staff, and I finished my locum stint with new skills that I learnt from each staff member. I ended up doubling my planned locum time with Shoalhaven Vet Group due to the positive experience, and have recommended it to colleagues since.

I found working as a Locum veterinarian at Shoalhaven Vet Group to be a rewarding and positive experience and one that I regularly recommend to other locums. Compared to other locum jobs a few points that stick out include:
- A large team of veterinarians with several different interests and areas of expertise which allows a high calibre of medicine and surgery to be practiced daily
- A management team that genuinely cares about work life balance, is generous with both resources and time and skills/career progression
- A roster that is constructed by a vet that understands the daily stressors experienced within the industry
- Morning tea and coffee bought in by Sue at 10am every morning!

I have been working in the lovely Shoalhaven area at both the North Nowra and Jervis Bay Veterinary Hospitals. I have found all the staff to be friendly and helpful. The clinics are well staffed and the vets are experienced.
The availability of in-house referrals for ultrasound and orthopaedics is a great asset. You can perform most procedures in house, reducing the amount of cases you have to refer. The support staff are very capable and help to make your job both easier and faster.
Afterhours is minimal and most calls are filtered by a nurse, you only hear about the cases that need to be seen.
The clients are good, I haven’t had many declining the treatments I have offered so far. The accommodation I have been provided with has also been excellent. I have definitely enjoyed my time here and would visit again.
Erica – Locum Veterinarian
North Nowra Veterinary Hospital was easily one of the best clinics I have ever worked with as a locum. The vet team are a wealth of knowledge and have a highly collaborative approach to case work-ups, with the clinic facilities and equipment allowing for thorough work up of more complex cases in-house.
The nurses are extremely competent, proactive and efficient. Plenty of snacks and coffee/hot drinks provided to keep us going, and lunch hours were well-respected which I was grateful for!
Overall I felt very well supported and looked after during my time with North Nowra, and left feeling fulfilled knowing I was able to offer gold standard care. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to fellow locums
