Exciting new treatment for Osteoarthritis
Autologous Adipose Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cell Treatment.
What is it?
Mesenchymal stem cells are dormant building blocks in our body. They are cells that have yet to form into any kind of tissue.
It has been found that there is very high concentration of these cells in fat. If these stem cells are extracted and activated they will then be incorporate into tissue and help re-build. Stem cells harvested from the animal’s own fatty tissue are administered to accelerate the healing of muscles and joints damaged by injury, disease or degeneration from old age.
Stem cell therapy can lengthen and rejuvenate the quality of life for dogs & cat experiencing arthritis, lameness, pain and a restricted range of motion. Previously, we were limited to prescribing anti-inflammatory medicine or performing expensive surgery such as hip replacements and other invasive procedures.
“This new technology marks a significant milestone in regenerative veterinary medicine,” said MediVet-America spokesman Dr. Mike Hutchinson, D.V.M., a leading practitioner in stem cell therapy who has performed more than 75 Adipose
Stem Cell treatments on dogs and cats. My independent research verifying MediVet’s superior results in stem cell count and activation has made me a staunch believer, and I’m excited to share this news with my colleagues. We are now able to bring the results of hundreds of millions of dollars of research directly into clinics for our companion animal patients,”
We have performed 2 Adipose derived stem cell procedures at North Nowra Veterinary Hospital with great results. One of these was "Hooch" a Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross.
“Hooch” had surgery in both knees when he was younger. He has been on an anti-inflammatory for the past year for osteoarthritis. If he stopped the anti-inflammatory he would become lame. He has had adipose derived stem cells placed into both of the knees in July and has been off anti-inflammatory with no lameness since.
Another case was not performed in our hospital but a great case from Sydney.
“Sophie,” is an 11-year old border collie suffering from severe osteoarthritis in her hips, knee joints and elbows. Sophie had difficulty walking, trotting, and getting in and out of the car. Drugs provided only minor relief. Just one month after the MediVet stem cell treatment, Sophie can run, jump and enjoy life. Her owner said, “I have my old dog back again!”
