Cathy & Quentin have introduced a senior care program to our hospital. A senior patient is an animal in transition from adulthood to old age. The senior care program takes an active approach to the aging patient by meeting their needs. The programs aim is prevention, early detection and timing medical intervention with the goal to preserving quality of life.
You may have heard the saying "one human year is equal to seven animal years" - this is not entirely accurate but gives you an idea of the accelerated aging process of the dog and cat. Because of this accelerated aging, we recommend health screen testing annually. A comprehensive health assessment and examination of your pet will be carried out. This includes a full physical examination, weight assessment, joint function and skin exam for tumors. Sometimes I wish I could talk to the animals or better still if they could talk back - that way picking up any underlying potential problems could be a lot easier. Dogs and cats can't talk to us and often problems go unnoticed. This is why blood tests, urinalysis and if indicated or desired thyroid test, blood pressure, ECG, and thoracic radiographs can be a critical factor in your pets annual health.
As in human medicine, the physical examination is very important, this is why we have created a checklist for you to complete at home. By filling in this checklist it will ensure we provide the best possible care for your pet and cover any aspect of concern you may have. Please call us today to make further enquires or to make an appointment for your pet to receive their annual health screen.
